"The newly-developed flagship model from Lamborghini."
The Murciélago has been the flagship of Lamborghini for almost 10 years since its debut in 2001, and it is time for a new leader. The new heir in this lineage descended from the famous Countach, is the Aventador which debuted at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
The Aventador inherits the iconic scissor doors that open upwards, identifying it as the top model Lamborghini. But because the silhouette of the car is not much different from the Murcielago, at first glance the car might not seem to be different.
But looks can be deceiving. Inside it has been completely redeveloped and has advanced like never before. The steel tube spaceframe of the Murcielago has been replaced by a carbon monocoque and forward/rear aluminum subframes, and almost all body parts have been made into carbon or aluminum. As a result, the car weighs roughly 100 kg less than the Murcielago, with a dry weight of 1575 kg. This is extremely light for a car of this class.
The newly developed mid-mounted engine is a 6.5 liter, DOHC 48 valve V12. The maximum power of 690 HP/8250 rpm and maximum torque of 509.1 ft-lb/5500 rpm are transferred to the ground through an electronically controlled forward/aft torque splitting mechanism and a single clutch 7 speed semi-AT that shifts 40% faster than the newest e-Gear on the Gallardo.
The suspension utilizes a pushrod type double wishbone configuration often used in racing, applied for the first time in the world on a production car. As a result of all the improvements made, the top speed of the Aventador has increased from 342 km/h of the Murcielago to 350 km/h, and the 0-100 acceleration is now 2.9 seconds, having been improved by 0.3 seconds. And of course its stability in high speed corners is unrivaled.
In an era where everyone is shouting eco-friendly performance, this is a rare, outstanding supercar which gathers praise for its high power and even higher performance.
