Ultima GTR GT2 Sports
The Ultima GTR is a supercar manufactured by Ultima Sports Ltd of Hinckley, Leicestershire, England. The car was available both in kit form and as a "turnkey" (i.e. assembled by the factory) vehicle until early 2015, when it was replaced by the Ultima Evolution. The design is a mid engined, rear wheel drive layout, with a tubular steel space frame chassis and GRP bodywork. A convertible version called the Ultima Can-Am was also produced. Kit builders were free to source and fit a variety of engines and transmissions but the Chevrolet small block V8 supplied by American Speed mated to either a Porsche or Getrag transaxle was the factory recommended standard, and this configuration was fitted to all turnkey cars.
The Ultima chassis was a versatile platform in British GT, accommodating a variety of powertrains. Amongst those who took big V8 power to try to slay giants in their class were the late lamented Colin Blower who, when budgets allowed in 2001/2, and the car co-operated, looked ready, willing and able to take very big scalps indeed in his self-built and prepped Ultima. Coincidentally the Ultima company is based in the same town (Hinckley) as Blower’s highly effective race engineering concern.
Earlier in British GT history, Chas Berger’s turbo Ford V6 powered GTR saw some competitive running too.
Others saw service in Euro GT and Belcar with some success.
